Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

Orright, I'll bite. The lies you describe are, as Lemmiwinks says, "the lubricant of society". But even if they are the most numerous of the lies told, they're not the most important.

I give you Bill "I never had sex with that woman" Clinton; Tiger "They're just fans, honest" Woods; Arnie "Love child, what love child" Schwarzenegger; John "At no time did I breach my duties" Della Bosca; and Dominique "It was consensual sex" Strauss-Kahn, just to pick a few. And that's only sexual misdeeds.

And I've only picked the most notorious. The common thread is that the liar is seeking to evade the sanction that is applied for a misdemeanor.

Howsybout recursive lying i.e. lying about whether you lied or not? I give you Hilary "I didn't lie, I merely told a mis-truth" Clinton.

I suggest that the kind of lying Anon. was objecting to is the kind that attempts to conceal a betrayal. That is a way different circumstance to the porkies you are describing.

Andrew, agreed. I was playing with
Anon. I think anyone who posts as Anon should be played with. :-)

Lemmiwinks, of course I also agree with what you've said.

To both of you: What I really love is when someone says "I never lie."
You KNOW you're dealing with a pathological liar when THAT happens.

Yep. I agree with you.
I would rather be lied to than hurt.

Stacksie, I'm not sure I meant that.

I yo-yo between being enraged by those lying to me and those telling me the truth.

Personally, prefer to be 'hurt' than lied to .. but that's a long and complicated discussion, i guess.

There seems to be some obfuscation between "fact": and "truth", recently.

Well said, Lemmiwinks. It seems that more "sensitive" or "fragile" a person is, the more lies and omissions become de rigueur when dealing with them. Boy, don't they raise hell when they catch you uttering a truth which they don't like the sound of?

Actually, I have a theory that they are control freaks in disguise.

"You can't handle the truth!" is a memorable line from that movie with Jack.
I don't want anybody pointing out "you look awful today" thanks.
Lie your head off please.
OTOH I have experienced all the deceit of an adulterous husband and none of that was good.
It's a crapshoot. like Life really.
and I can speak on this for Bwca Brownie and Ms Annie O'D as well.
peace and love.

I think you get problems when people with incompatible "porky thresholds" collide. Someone who generally deals honestly with people is no match for someone who resorts to manipulating the truth, fibbing or downright bullshitting to get their own way. Most 'office psychopaths' fall into the latter category, which I suppose is how they get to the top of the heap.

Yes, Sue, there is non-malicious lying and there is malicious lying. It's the latter which is bad.
