Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

They really believe it...

I'm watching TV.

It's a documentary about life aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, the United States' newest (in 2005) nuclear powered aircraft carrier. One of the officers interviewed shares this gem of wisdom:

"Our mission is to protect the United States"

I'm sure she really believes that. It may well be thirty years later (if ever) before she realises what their real mission was. No one is more attuned to unquestioningly osmoting propaganda than a serviceperson.

Ahh... True believers... God love 'em...

"Forgive them, for they know not what they do" comes to mind...

I think that doco must have been old, Gerry; the newest of the Nimitz class aircraft carriers is George. H. W. Bush, commissioned in 2009. The Ronald Reagan was commissioned in 2003.

Not that that makes any difference to your point. Even Wikipedia admits that the purpose of an aircraft carrier is to project power, and, in the case of the Nimitz class aircraft carriers, that means anywhere in the world.

Yep, and while we're all busy with Christmas the US passes another law to enhance its "rule of law" mantra.

The officer in question was merely saying something that wouldn't harm her career. I've been in the military. The military is just another large bureaucracy. Those who know what's really going on either find more suitable work elsewhere or parrot the company line.

FI, yep. But from my experience in the military, most who say those things actually believe them and staunchly continue to do so for the rest of their lives.
