Nothing in this blog can be believed. If you think that anything in this blog is true or factual, you'll need to verify it from another source. Do you understand? No? Then read it again, and repeat this process, until you understand that you cannot sue me for anything you read here. Also, having been sucked into taking part in the mass-murder of more than 3 million Vietnamese people on behalf of U.S. Big Business "interests", I'm as mad as a cut snake (and broke) so it might be a bit silly to try to sue me anyway...

Keeping You In The Dark About Agent Orange

... and a whole rainbow of Dioxin Agents Of Death sprayed on Vietnam by the US during its "war of liberation".

From 1961 to 1971 over 77 million litres of herbicide were dispensed over southern Viet Nam by the US military through the code-named ‘Operation Ranch Hand’[...]. The Vietnamese reported early on during the operation that human health was being adversely affected by widespread dispersal of defoliants. Agent Orange, a 1:1 mixture of 2,4,-D and 2,4,5-T, was the most prevalent herbicide used [...].  (read more >>>)

They sprayed the countryside.

They sprayed the rice paddies.

They sprayed the water supplies.

It was chemical warfare.  And it has now left a legacy of four and a half million Vietnamese, most of them  deformed children of those who lived in the sprayed areas.

One of the often quoted "reasons" for the US invasion of Iraq was that Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons on his own people, killing around five thousand.

So, d'oh... why doesn't the US now invade itself?

But I digress...

Last Wednesday, the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, and the Vietnam Consul General Mai Phuoc Dung, and the Vietnamese Ambassador Hoang Vinh Thanh, and playwright and actress Kate Mulvany, attended the opening of an art exhibition held to raise funds for the Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange.   It was a well attended event with over 300 people turning up.

Kate Mulvany, who suffered from her father's exposure to Agent Orange while he served in the Australian Army in Vietnam, read extracts from her play "The Seed".

As part of the extensive publicity disseminated about this event, all of the major print, radio, and TV media outlets were sent press releases notifying them of this event well in advance.

NOT ONE OF THEM ATTENDED !!!

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME !!!

The Media toe the American line. It is expedient not to become involved.
Maybe it will all go away one day when few are left to remember.

The media are just lazy kids. People getting sick from war are not 'sexy', especially if they look strange and different and live overseas. Much better to write about Lara Bingle's shoes. That's far more important.

No wonder the media are going broke. Can't happen soon enough.

There wasn't too much toeing of the American line from Four Corners reporters such as Mike Willesee and John Penlington back in the day. I wonder whether the press release was intercepted by twenty-something staffers with no knowledge of history. Or handed off to the Arts Desk?

@Anon: I think you're right, in the long term. In the shorter term, I think those arrogant desperadoes might be quite prepared to cause a hell of a lot of shit before they are finally dispatched to the junk pile of history. And right now Iran and China are in their sights if I'm reading the propaganda correctly.

And we Australians would apparently rather play the role of Sycophants To The Empire, once again, rather than adopt a neutral, independent stance.

I guess it beats growing up as a nation...

As a nation, we have the self esteem of a prostitute with delusions of grandeur.

Grrrr...

MS, Yes, but I fear that BUSINE$$ is the new God, "growth" the new "path", and greed the new righteousness. :-(
